This year at the Arab Career Development Conference (ACDC) in Egypt 🇪🇬 , I had the honor to speak at the opening, and I shared a simple truth:
“I am here today not just as a co-founder of SkillLab but as a person from this region – returning, not visiting.”
This year’s edition felt like a milestone.
🔹 More countries were represented, bringing us closer to ACDC’s core purpose, creating a space where Arab voices shape the future of career development, together.
🔹 We witnessed the launch of the first Arabic-language Career Development Framework, built for and by the region. A real breakthrough that acknowledges our shared realities and specific needs.
🔹 And as a co-founder of SkillLab, it was deeply meaningful to hear unsolicited feedback from practitioners using our platforms and solutions in the region, a powerful validation from the field.
I was proud to be there with my colleague Arijana Radic, and even prouder to represent SkillLab as a sponsor of this third edition, having stood by this initiative since its very beginning.
And above all, I was proud to be there as a Palestinian woman 🇵🇸, to speak, to be seen, and to carry my identity with me.
As Palestinians, we’re constantly fighting for our right to be recognized, and that makes every moment of representation meaningful.
This region holds so much promise, and it also deserves peace.
Peace rooted in dignity, justice, and the freedom for every voice to be heard.
I carry that hope with me for Palestine, for our region, and for the world. 🕊️✌️☮️

It was not only a conference, it was also a family reunion… at least this is how I see it.
I am talking about the 3rd Arab Career Development Conference.
What happened there? I am not going to post about it because if you were not there, then you missed it. But I will tell you how I feel.
A family reunion with great people who are shaping and impacting the field of Career Development in the MENA region and the whole world.
As always, I have learned new things, gained new insights, and understood myself better.
It goes without saying: Thanks to my sensi, mentor, teacher, and friend Ahmed Mostafa Kamal, CCSP,CMCS, GCDF,CDFI,JCDC,JCTC, MHF. Who until this moment, I do not know how he can tolerate my personality. He has been pushing me to do more and more, with him leading everything, and waiting for me to catch up with him..
And to my dear friend Dr. Brian Hutchison aka Global Career Guy ~ PhD, LPC, CCCE, Thank you for being there with us. Thank you for teaching me and educating me whenever we meet. It is always a happy journey and so valuable when you are there. Whenever we meet after a long time, it feels like we just met a week ago because of your lovely and inspiring personality. This year’s Arab Career and Development Conference, at The GrEEK Campus, was truly inspiring!
Beyond the insightful lectures, dynamic one-on-one sessions, and exciting new partnerships, in line with the hashtag#UNSDGs, I was particularly energized by the opportunity to connect with and guide the next generation of talent.
My session on Career Sustainable Growth was full of insightful discussions about today’s job market challenges and, more importantly, for coaching and empowering young professionals to become tomorrow’s game-changers. Collaborating with key career development advocates fuels my optimism for a more impactful future, driven by talented and passionate youth.

As I reflect on my journey through the last three Arab Career Development Conferences (ACDC), I feel a deep sense of pride and gratitude!
These conferences have been so much more than just gatherings; they have been pivotal moments in my professional and personal growth. Each year, I’ve had the privilege to learn from incredible speakers who have shared their wisdom and experiences, igniting my passion for career development and pushing me to explore new avenues I never considered before.
The friendships and professional relationships I’ve built at ACDC are invaluable. I remember striking up conversations with fellow attendees that turned into collaborations and mentorships, creating a supportive network I can rely on.
Beyond career development, ACDC has encouraged me to reflect on my aspirations and values, inspiring me to set ambitious goals and pursue them with confidence.
Over the past three years, I’ve had the honor of facilitating four workshops, participating in a panel discussion with Dr. Brian Hutchison aka Global Career Guy ~ PhD, LPC, CCCE and conducting several one-on-one sessions.
Additionally, I’m proud to share that this year I’ve been certified as an ACDF Instructor under the accreditation of the Arab Career Development Association.
These experiences have not only enriched my own journey but have also allowed me to give back to the community that has supported me.

• Member and Leader of the National Board for Professional Development in the USA –

Professional experience:
• Born and raised in Egypt in Giza Governorate, he took the professional path before
graduating from university, which refined his skills and developed his potential, in
addition to his journey of self-discovery, which has not yet ended.
• He has been involved in the field of information technology for more than two
decades, during which he held several positions, including Information Systems
Consultant in the Office of Experts of the Minister of Finance, then his career path
shifted to the field of professional development to manage the operations of the first
professional development project in the Arab world, which is the establishment of a
vocational guidance and counseling center at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo
University in 2006.
• He also served as a Professional Development Consultant for the United Nations
Children’s Fund (UNICEF) from October 2009 to 2018.
Other notable achievements:
• In June 2010, during the annual conference of the National Board for Professional
Development (NCDA) in the USA “the largest institution in this field in the world”,
where he was celebrated as the first representative of this association in the Arab
world.
• In January 2011, Ahmed Mustafa was selected by the National Board for Professional
Development (NCDA) in the USA to be the first Arab to join the leadership
development program in the field of professional development to enable him to lead
and spread this field in the Arab world. This was followed by Ahmed Mustafa being
accredited in February 2011 as a Senior International Trainer for Professional
Development at the global level, and to be the only one with the right to teach and
develop curricula for this field in the Arabic language.
• In early 2014, Ahmed Mustafa was nominated to join the Advisory Council of the National Board of Certified Consultants in the USA to become the first Arab to obtain this membership.
• In May 2015, he was chosen by the National Council of Certified Consultants) in the field of mental health and psychology (in the USA) to be an ambassador for the first international conference in the field of mental health facilitation in North Carolina,
USA. During this conference, he was granted a certificate of registration as a mental health facilitator to be the first Arab to have the right to implement the mental health facilitator program and train trainers on it in the Arab world.
• Ahmed has carried out many development and educational programs for all segments of society and different age groups, which have had a clear impact on
rebuilding a new way of thinking about planning life paths. One of his most famous programs is the Self-Management Art program, in which he teaches a new system of standards and measurements that help to understand personality patterns in addition to multiple lifestyle patterns so that life paths can be planned in accordance with personality patterns. This in addition to programs for preparing certified professional counselors and facilitators from the USA, where more than 1000 guidance and counseling specialists have been trained since October 2009 until January 2020 in many countries.
• In mid-2011, Ahmed Mustafa was chosen to implement the first pilot project to
integrate professional development into the educational system in the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia; from September 2016 to January 2020, he managed the professional development programs for Allow Company in the Kingdom, which implements some of the professional development and scientific content projects for professional development for many government agencies and other sectors in the Kingdom.
GROWAT was established to lead human development programs, projects and
services in the next stage for Arab societies, whether in the Arab world or Western countries.

Marty Apodaca is the Manager of Career Counseling at the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Student Health and Counseling where he assists his clients in exploring the intersections of career and mental health. For over a decade, he previously served as a Career Development Facilitator at UNM Career Services, where he supervised and trained both individual and group counseling interns. Marty presents to counseling graduate students on career related topics and has taught undergraduate career development courses.
Marty’s NCDA roles include being the Trustee-at-Large for Leadership Academy and a co-associate editor for the Features section of NCDA’s web magazine, Career Convergence. Previously, he served on the President’s Strategic Planning committee and is an alumnus of Leadership Academy. Marty is an active board member and former president of the NMCDA, where he helps facilitate workshops aimed at educating community providers, career practitioners, and school counselors on serving their populations’ career needs. Marty has also been faculty at two Career Construction Institutes and offers supervision and guidance to UNM staff and graduate students who use the Career Construction Interview with clients.
Marty has publications in the Career Development Quarterly, Career Planning and Adult Development Network, and Career Convergence. Marty has also been published in the Journal of Individual Psychology, Teaching and Supervision in Counseling, and ACA’s VISTAS web magazine. Marty received his BA in English and MA in Counseling from UNM. While working on his MA, he served as a board member and president for Chi Sigma Iota, the counseling honor society. This session equips career professionals with the knowledge and skills to effectively conduct the Career Construction Interview (CCI).
Participants will explore its foundations, learn the interview process, and walk away with practical tools to help clients construct narratives that guide career choices and promote personal meaning in work.
Summary :
Career construction counseling and utilizing client narratives serve as a model for career
counseling in the 21st century (Rehuss, Del Corso, Galvin, & Wykes, 2005; Savickas, 2011; Hartung & Vess, 2016). Several countries around the world employ career construction counseling and narrative methods as a new paradigm for career counseling (Savickas & Guichard, 2016).
Clients’ narratives reveal self-knowledge, interests,
accomplishments, strengths, values, and clues as to potential career directions for undecided clients (Brott, 2001).
Clients’ stories reveal self-understanding, serve as a guide for how clients operate in the
world, and disclose glimpses of the person they wish to become (McAdams, 2001).
Career construction counseling and narrative methods assists clients in developing their
career identity and improving career adaptability (Guichard, 2016; Maree, 2016;
Savickas, 2016; Savickas & Guichard, 2016).
Stories are a way to explore, evaluate, and construct clients’ identities (White & Epston, 1990; Brott, 2001; McAdams, 2001; Madigan, 2011 Savickas 2012; Combs & Freedman, 2016) while assessing clients’ past, present, and future self (McAdams, 2001).
Having the client construct life stories reveal deeply held personal insights that may be difficult to ascertain through direct questioning about clients’ values, strengths, and beliefs (Brott,
2001).
During this session, career professionals will learn how to utilize the Career Construction Interview (CCI) to assist clients with career and life concerns. Career is an ever evolving field. The techniques and theories discussed during this session are current, relevant, and designed to meet the fluctuating career and life needs of clients.

Across the U.S. & circling the globe, her digitally fluent and face-to-face experiences have traversed business, government, education & NPO settings. Natalie has been recognized by the National Career Development Association for her exceptional performance providing career development services and received the association’s Outstanding Career Practitioner Award. She also is the proud recipient of both the Johns Hopkins University Heritage Award and the Alumni Council Extraordinary Service Award.
She has written online for the Washington Post’s message boards as their resident Worklife Careers Expert and has taught Career Decision Making courses at the college level & in both the Facilitating Career Development (FCD) and Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) curricula. Throughout the years, Natalie has joined leaders from local, state, national and international government organizations, educational institutions, businesses and nonprofits to design plans, procedures and processes to make career development a systemic priority. She continues to weave the impact of economic, social and demographic issues with current and past career development research and practice to address the many challenges facing job seekers during our ongoing globally-sluggish economic recovery as the COVID-19 pandemic shifts to an endemic. Yasmine El Hagry (B.A. Journalism & Mass Communication), the American University in Cairo (AUC) 2004, the Executive Director of Sanad for Alternative Parental Care (previously called Wataneya Society). Currently, she is studying for a master’s degree in Public Administration at the AUC. She is a certified Strategy and Business Professional by KPI Institute and a certified Positive Psychology Life Coach by ICF.
She was named twice among the 100 sustainability champions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) included in 2023 and 2024 and among the 2022 list of the most influential Arab figures in the CSR and sustainability domains, which was issued by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility.
Her passion for serving children started when she was at college. She was an active member of “Volunteers in Action,” a leading students’ club for supporting orphans. She was elected club president in 2003. In 2009, she decided to join a newly starting NGO, Wataneya Society, to fulfill her dream of supporting orphans and leave her position as an associate creative director in a well-established advertising agency. Through her work as External Relations Manager, Yasmine participated in developing and advocating for the National Quality Standards for Care within Orphanages in Egypt, developed by Wataneya in participation with civil society. These standards were accredited by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in 2014.
She initiated and managed various events and awareness campaigns such as “Know me! I’m not Just an Orphan” and “A Chance to Know Us!” to build a positive perception towards orphans and their caregivers.
She managed to build fruitful partnerships and successful collaborations within civil society, the private sector, the media, the schools, and universities. She succeeded in winning grants and awards for Wataneya’s programs and projects.
In 2017, Yasmine was responsible for managing Wataneya’s strategy implementation, being the Strategic Projects Unit Senior Manager. She led the content development of SANAD’s 1st Regional Conference on After Care in partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity in 2019. She participated with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and UNICEF in developing the first draft for the Alternative Care Law to provide a supporting system for children and youth without parental care in Egypt.

Carolyn D. Jones served as the 2023-2024 President of the National Career Development Association (NCDA). She is the President/CEO of CDJ Consulting, LLC. She assists her clients in her private practice with career development strategies and life management. She is also a consultant for non-profit agencies, colleges, universities, organizations and corporations on team building, training, leadership and resource development and is an international presenter on career development. Carolyn holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, is an adept MBTI practitioner and has earned the NCDA Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS) and Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) credentials. She is a Facilitating Career Development (FCD) Instructor Trainer for the CCSP and Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credentials.
She has an extensive professional background as a Career Center Executive Director responsible for career development services and experiential education programs. In her role as the President of the Florida Career Development Association (FCDA) for two years, she was instrumental in re-establishing the Executive Board and increased membership by 300% during an annual term that she held for two years.
Carolyn is a former NCDA State Division Trustee for two three-year terms. She has also served as chair and co-chair of the NCDA Ethics Committee and as a member of the Awards Committee for several years. She has authored and co-authored several articles in the NCDA Career Developments magazine. She is also an International Correspondent representing NCDA and the United States for the International Association for Education and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG).
Carolyn served as the Vice Chair of the Northern New Jersey United Way, Trustee for the Montclair American Red Cross, and as Trustee and Secretary of the State University of New York Maritime College Foundation Board, among others. She also served as the Chair of the Broward County Florida School Board Small Business Advisory Committee. She is the recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service and has received several other awards and honors throughout her career.

Dr.Hamda Alnaimi is a Certified Career Counselor (CCC) and a Certifies FCD Instructor from the National Career Development Association (NCDA) with 27 years of experience in Qatari Educational system, 14 of which in career advising. Hamda has a hands-on experience in advising students and job seekers finding the right career paths. Working in the scholarship department in Qatar, Hamda has a good insight of the scholarship programs which enhance the service she provides especially for students who qualify for such service.
Hamda has been rewarded a PhD. From the University of Reading for her thesis that studied Qatari Students future educational and occupational decisions and the factors affecting these decisions. Getting her master degree from Ohio University in secondary education, Hamda had the chance to attend an American high school and live a real experience that helped her dealing with issues across cultures.
Dr.Alnaimi currently serve as Career Development Consultant in Qatar providing several training programs such as employability skills and facilitating career development. She also volunteers to provide free career advising service for various clients.
